About

Why listen to me?

Welcome! I’m Ariel Garraway, a multi-faceted black woman who has ALWAYS been fascinating with technology. From an early age, I was drawn to computers and digital technology and I majored in entertainment technology during my high school years. Although at my core I loved technology, my many different interests inspired me to deviate to a different path in fitness and wellness (another passion of mine) for the majority of my college years where I pursued a Sports Management Degree at Rutgers University. Post graduation, I was left feeling unsatisfied (and broke) with the career path in front of me, and became determined to create a career that was both financially rewarding and one that I was passionate about. Despite facing numerous obstacles attempting to land my first job in tech, I refused to give up. After spending months of applying, I started in a support role for a technology software company and found my way falling in love with generating new ideas for enhancements and participating in QA testing. Witnessing the process of bringing an idea to a tangible digital reality instantly affirmed what I felt in my heart….this is where I’m meant to be. When the pandemic struck and we were forced to work remotely, I used that time to dive into business analyst courses to get a firm understanding of the role and what it takes to succeed. After spending months again of aggressively applying and interviewing, I landed my first role as a business analyst with no prior experience and no computer science degree. Oh and the best part is I was able to increase my income by 20%! I became determined to excel as BA over the years spending countless hours learning, applying my skills, and working my way into leadership. Since I pivoted to tech, I now work as a Product Owner for the second-largest broadcasting and cable television company in the world and I specialize in creating amazing digital experiences for Enterprise customers.

I know firsthand the challenges that come with breaking into this industry, but I also know that it is possible. With hard work, determination, and a lot of grit, anything is possible. I hope to inspire other women of color to pursue their dreams and break down barriers in the tech industry. I believe it’s necessary to have a more diverse and inclusive tech industry that will lead to better products and solutions for everyone, and I am committed to doing my part to make that happen.
